How Europack Ensures Zero Damage Transit – Case Study
Real case study of how Europack achieved zero-damage transit for a 45-ton turbine shipment from Mumbai to Rotterdam. Methods, challenges, and results.

In 2024, Europack was contracted to package and ship a 45-ton gas turbine from a manufacturing facility in Pune to a power plant in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The turbine was valued at ₹18 crore, and the client required zero-damage delivery with full insurance documentation. This case study documents our methodology and the successful outcome.
The Challenge
Our Solution
Phase 1: Site Assessment (Day 1)
Our engineering team visited the Pune facility to survey the turbine. We documented all dimensions, lifting points, fragile components (precision shaft bearings, control panels, sensors), and manufacturer handling requirements.
Phase 2: Corrosion Protection (Day 2-3)
All exposed metal surfaces were cleaned, degreased, and sprayed with VCI. Precision surfaces received anti-rust oil application. The entire turbine was wrapped in VCI film, then enclosed in a custom aluminum barrier foil bag. 15 kg of silica gel desiccant was placed inside. The bag was vacuum-sealed to remove 85% of internal air.
Phase 3: Structural Packaging (Day 4-6)
A custom hardwood base was constructed using 150mm x 150mm sal wood runners with steel bracket reinforcement at all joints. The turbine was bolted to the base through its factory mounting points. Internal bracing prevented any lateral or longitudinal movement. Shock-absorbing foam pads were installed at all contact points.
Phase 4: Container Loading (Day 7)
The flat rack was pre-inspected and cleaned. The turbine on its base was loaded by crane. Steel lashing straps (12 units, SWL 5 tons each) secured the cargo to the flat rack tie-down points. Dunnage filled all gaps. Weather tarpaulin was secured over the top for rain protection during port storage.
The Result
The turbine arrived at Rotterdam port 35 days later in perfect condition. All humidity indicator cards showed green (no moisture exposure). VCI protection was intact. The client confirmed zero damage upon installation. Insurance documentation was complete and accepted without questions. This outcome is not exceptional for Europack – it is our standard.
